A GIRL of 10 has died after an incident at a leisure centre swimming pool, police have confirmed.
The youngster, named locally as Jessica Rennie, was at the Get Active Northfield centre in Aberdeen and was taken by paramedics to the city's Royal Infirmary but she later died.
The youngster is said to have got into difficulty in the water. Police are not treating the death as suspicious. The accident happened on the first day of Aberdeen City Council's three-day mid-term holiday.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 8 pm on Monday, February 12, 2024, we were made aware a young female had got into difficulty in a swimming pool in Aberdeen.&nbsp;
Emergency services attended and a 10-year-old girl was taken to hospital where she later died.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death, which is not being treated as suspicious."
A leisure centre spokesman said: "Sport Aberdeen is working closely with the relevant authorities. The venue remains closed until further notice.
Local man Yilmaz Huseyin, who has set up a fundraising page to help Jessica's family, said it had already raised almost &pound;3000.
He said: "No family should ever have to be prepared for such a loss. You're all in our hearts and thoughts. Sleep tight, Jessica.
