THE chairman of a major bank has been blasted as "out of touch" after he claimed it is not "that difficult" to get on the property ladder.
NatWest's Howard Davies said those who want to buy a home have to save and that "is the way it always used to be".
Labour slammed&nbsp;him for being "so out of touch with the reality of ordinary working people".
It comes as property values were reported to have increased by 1.7 percent on average in 2023 by the Halifax house price index. The typical UK&nbsp;house price in December 2023 was &pound;287,105, up from &pound;282,305 a year earlier.
Asked by BBC Radio 4's Today programme when it will be easier for people to get on the property ladder, Davies said: "I don't think it is that difficult at the moment. Labour's shadow&nbsp;Scotland secretary, Ian Murray, hit back, saying: "It's probably the hardest in decades to get on the property ladder and perhaps the chairman of one of the UK's largest banks shouldn't be so out of touch with the reality of ordinary working people, especially young people."
