Animal rescue experts are aware of the situation and have urged the public to stay away from the area.
Several whales have been washed up on Scots coasts in the last six months. In November, two of the animals died on east coast beaches despite rescue missions from animal medics.
Locals believe the latest stranding is of a fin whale, which is the second-biggest species after the blue whale.
The species can grow to 26m long and gets its name from an easy-to-spot fin on its back, near the tail.
Councillor Graeme Downie said: "Fife Coast &amp; Countryside Trust are aware of a dead whale on the shore at Culross." He added: "Their operations team are on site at the moment and will decide the course of action." The Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme has been approached for comment.
