A SAM Heughan superfan lost £10,000 in a cryptocurrency scam by a fraudster posing as the star.

Mary Ryland, 72, even punted her engagement ring to raise funds after she was targeted on Instagram.

The gran spent months chatting online with an account claiming to be the 43-year-old actor.

Initially sceptical, she was sent a picture of a passport that turned out to be fake to convince her she was speaking to the Outlander star.

The crook convinced her to put money into a cryptocurrency account.

They even sent Mary fake graphs to make her think her investment was growing, asking for a total of £10,000, of which £5000 was to "withdraw the money".

The retired florist only realised it was a con when she read a story of another woman it had happened to.
