Scots need £40k to play in Deaf Euros

SCOTLAND'S deaf football team are desperately trying to raise enough cash to compete in the Euros for the first time ever.

The squad are aiming to take part in the Deaf European Championships in Turkey this summer.

But a lack of funding means a crowdfunding appeal is their only hope of achieving their dream.

The Scottish Deaf Football Association says it has just weeks to raise the £40,000 needed to get the players to the competition in May.

Head coach George McGowan told the Record it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity they cannot miss.

He said: "When I explained about the funding needed for Euros, their faces just dropped. It was horrible to watch.

"I am hopeful that we will be able to raise these funds. It's actually embarrassing to ask for support for these boys.
