Campaigners accuse firm of giving 9 times more cash to shareholders than clean energy projects

SHELL raked in "shameful" profits of £700 a second last year while millions of households struggled with soaring energy bills.

The oil giant revealed it made a mammoth £22.3billion in 2023.

And campaigners said it was giving nine times more cash to shareholders than it was investing in clean energy.

It comes as the planet roasted in record-high temperatures last year with greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels trapped in the atmosphere and heating up the world.

Greens climate spokesman Mark Ruskell said: "We are being plunged into climate chaos while oil giants like Shell are profiting every step of the way.
