AN OAP was bitten by two Staffordshire bull terriers who ripped her pet's throat and killed it.
Anne Baker told how eight-year-old Missy died after being mauled in a field close to their home in Elie, Fife, on Sunday.
The 75-year-old, who was attacked while trying to protect the Border collie, and husband John now face a &pound;6000 vet bill.
Anne told the Record: "I had let Missy off her lead in the field because it looked empty.
"But then I heard a woman shouting, 'No, no, no, get your dog', so I immediately called&nbsp;Missy back.
"Before she could reach me, this black dog came running straight towards Missy. Then a grey Staffy appeared and joined in.

They were tearing into her, ripping at her throat.
"I knew she was in a bad way so I phoned the vet and they told me to bring her straight in. They made her comfortable but told us it wasn't looking good.
"But the dogs are still staying down the road. The police can't take them away because apparently it was just a dog fight and I only got bitten because I was trying to separate them."
Paul Coleman, Fife Council's safer communities manager, said the local authority and the police were investigating.
