Muir fired up by flatmate's gold as 1500m semis place booked in chase for podium

LAURA MUIR stayed up late to see flatmate Keely Hodgkinson's golden moment - then got up early to take another step towards her own Olympic dream.

Muir opened yesterday's track events with a comfortable second place finish in her 1500metres heat.

And the 31-year-old admitted watching Hodgkinson claim GB's first Olympic gold on the track in eight years was a huge source of inspiration as she chases a podium place herself.

Muir got a glimpse of her teammate's bling before heading out to light up the Stade de France herself.

Her 3.58.91 saw her cross the line a split second behind Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay to qualify for tomorrow's semifinals second fastest of the three heats, which also saw GB's Georgia Bell make it through in heat two.

The Scot reckons Hodgkinson has led the way for the GB track team with her 800m show-stopping run Muir, who won silver in Tokyo, said: "Oh my goodness yes!
