SCOT GEMMILL has backed shock Scotland Euro 2024 call-up Ben Doak to prove he belongs at that level.
The 18-year-old uncapped Liverpool starlet was a surprise inclusion in Steve Clarke's squad despite having only played 13 minutes of football in the Premier League this season.
He's recovered from injury and won promotion from Gemmill's Under-21s squad who go to play Turkey in Istanbul and Austria in Wiener Neustadt next month.
Doak's final act for the Under-21s could well be missing a penalty with the last kick of the ball in Budapest against Hungary in November with Scotland having to settle for a goalless draw in the Euro 2025 qualifiers.
But Gemmill's worked with the kid since handing him his first start almost two years ago where he burst onto the scene as the youngest-ever goalscorer for the Under-21s in a friendly win over Northern Ireland.
And he doesn't expect ex-Celtic winger Doak to enter the Scotland camp timidly.
