THE Record's legendary Angus Og is to be the focus of a major conference at Glasgow University.
The adventures of the beloved comic strip character, created by Highland cartoonist Ewen Bain, featured in these pages from 1960 to 1989.
Readers loved characters including Mrs Og, Angus's mum. Mr MacSonachan, the minister, and Lachie Mor, our hero's best friend.
Fans can join Angus Og and a host of speakers at Glasgow Uni for a full day event later this month. The event will showcase the original cartoons and explore the key themes they address including social history and political commentary, cultural identity, and language.
For budding cartoonists, there will be a dive into the world of cartoon creation, visual narratives, and humour in culture.
Inspired by the Isle of Skye, Bain's Angus Og was based on the fabled Isle of Drambeg in the Utter Hebrides and was a huge hit with Record readers.
There were 158 adventures and the collection of original strips has been donated to culture charity High Life Highland's Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre by Ewen's daughter Rhona Flin.
Katharine Macfarlane of High Life Highland said: "It will be of great interest to anyone who enjoys cartoons, comics and Scottish culture."
