A WOMAN has died after plunging from a block of flats just two hours after police had visited her home.
Officers from Police Scotland were called to the 45-year-old's property at around 10am on Thursday after being asked to check on her whereabouts.
But they left the flat in Irvine, Ayrshire, believing she was "safe and well". The woman is then reported to have fallen from the third-floor window at the home in the town's Warrix Avenue after 12pm.
She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by air ambulance but has since passed away. Police are now investigating her death and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
A source told the Record: "This is an absolute sin what has happened to this poor woman. She wasn't in a good place and officers were called to assist because there were such concerns for her safety.
"It is absolutely heartbreaking for her family but also for her. There were clearly well founded concerns for her health and steps were taken to try and get her the help she needed.
"But despite the concerns and officers trying to help her she has still ended up losing her life. It's absolutely devastating.
Police said inquiries are continuing.
