Rail services are axed in drivers' pay dispute

TRAIN STRAIN

TRAIN services across Scotland were badly disrupted yesterday amid a pay row between ScotRail and drivers' union Aslef.

A total of 243 services were cancelled. The rail operator made a number of timetable alterations, with one in four services axed or altered.

Since Aslef warned on June 24 that it may ballot members for industrial action over pay, services have been hit, with fewer train drivers than normal being available for overtime or rest day working.

On Friday, the union told ScotRail it would recommend a ballot of members to its executive committee over pay.
