Despite treatment, Wesley now needs an urgent transplant following permanent damage to his liver.
His mum, Darian Toall, 28, from Livingston, told the Record she faces being away from his dad Finn, 28, for five months to be with Wesley in Birmingham because no hospital in Scotland is able to perform the transplant.
She said: "It's going to be a big challenge and isolating but we hope that this transplant will last a very long time and he will be able to get on with his life."
