Our Antipodean cousins showed how it's done first, with displays in Wellington, New Zealand, and Sydney harbour.

Fabulous shows were also put on as 2024 arrived in Bali, Indonesia, and Beijing, China.

In Scotland, thousands gathered in Edinburgh to mark the 30th anniversary of the city's official Hogmanay celebrations.

A ticketed concert and street party has taken place in the capital since 1993 and last night the occasion was marked with a concert in Princes Street Gardens headlined by 90s Britpop legends Pulp.

Last night, up to 40,000 revelers from across the globe packed into Princes Street for the street party to see in the new year.
