The huge &pound;180million sum has seen taxpayers covering everything from business class flights, hotels, iPads and professional photoshoots, an investigation has found.
MPs and Lords claimed &pound;90m on expenses each between August 2019 and July 2022, analysis by openDemocracy shows, but the figures exclude &pound;310m claimed separately for MPs' staff.
MPs billed more than &pound;2.3m for hotels, including for trips abroad - despite lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 when travel and hotel stays were severely restricted.
Previous research revealed MPs claimed more than &pound;1m over six years to heat second homes.
Anny Cullum, of social justice campaigners ACORN, slammed the expenses "while many of us struggle with rising rents, energy bills and food costs as the cost-of-living crisis grinds on".
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Committee, which regulates MPs' expenses, says it ensures "value for money", transparency and accountability.
Alistair Graham, the former chair of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, said: "I'd be shocked if it's true that IPSA have run such a relaxed regime."&nbsp;&nbsp;
