AN online petition calling for general election ballots to include the option to vote for nobody is gaining popularity.
The petition urges the Government to adopt a "none of the above" option on all ballots starting with the next general election.
Petition creator Alex Bailey argues its inclusion would "enhance democratic choice and allow voters to express dissatisfaction".
The petition states that if "none of the above" wins most votes then a rerun of the election, with initial candidates disqualified, should be considered.
It follows a similar system in some areas of the US. Mr.&nbsp;Bailey said the "none of the above" option could help re-connect more than 30% of registered electors who do not vote.
He argued it would encourage voter registration and be an alternative to spoilt ballots.
"This may rekindle the interest of disillusioned voters and deliver diverse electoral outcomes," he said.
Ministers are obliged to respond to a petition once it has 10,000 signatures. The petition currently has more than 3,500 signatures and can be signed at petition parliament.
