AN Alzheimer's drug is most effective in patients who receive an early diagnosis, say scientists.
Donanemab was found to slow "clinical decline" by up to 35%.
It means people with the disease could still carry out everyday tasks like shopping, housekeeping and taking medication.
Dr Richard Oakley, associate director of research and innovation at the Alzheimer's Society, said: "Diagnosis will be key to the access of any new treatments.
"We need early and accurate diagno ses available for everyone, and the NHS ready to roll out treatments such as donanemab and&nbsp;lecanemab if and when they are approved in the UK."
It is hoped the treatments could one day mean becomes like Alzheimer's other long-term conditions such as asthma or diabetes.
Dr Richard Oakley added: "This is truly a turning point in the fight against Alzheimer's." And Dr Susan Kohlhaas, inset,&nbsp;executive director of research and partnerships at UK, Alzheimer's Research said: "Today's announcement marks ano-ther milestone.
"Thanks to decades of research, the outlook for dementia and its impact on people and our society is finally changing."
