JOEY Barton has offered to pay Jeremy Vine £75,000 after calling the broadcaster a “big bike nonce”. The out-of-work football manager apologised to Mr Vine for the comments posted on X, where he also called him a “pedo defender”, and admitted they were “untrue”. Mr Vine, 59, had sued Barton, 41, for libel and harassment over the 14 online posts. A High Court judge ruled last month that 11 of the posts could defame the telly presenter. Barton admitted the posts accused Mr Vine of having a sexual interest in children. But he said: “It is untrue. I do not believe that Mr Vine has a sexual interest in children.” Barton also admitted posts referring to Mr Vine advocating forced Covid jabs were from a “misleading” clip. Mr Vine said it was not the “final outcome”. He said a £75,000 settlement was offered to Barton “after five defamatory tweets”. But he posted more and “will pay further damages for these”, Mr Vine said, adding there would also be an “apology” in court and that Barton “has agreed to pay my legal costs”.
