The researchers say they investigated "most" Bigfoot sightings in the US last year and could link the majority of them to being bears.
Stats show one Bigfoot is reported for every 5,000 black bears in an area.
But there are some in Florida that they have not been able to explain.
The mythical hairy beasts are often said to hide in forests. But Florida does not have much of this cover - and a lower bear population.
Michael Hickerson, of City College, New York said: "Shouldn't less forest area predict fewer Sasquatch sightings, not more? And if there are more humans but few bears, what are the mistaken identifications?"
