A "WALTER Mitty" police chief accused of pretending to be a Falklands War veteran is facing gross misconduct proceedings.
Nick Adderley, 57, the chief constable of Northamptonshire, will now be the subject of an accelerated disciplinary hearing following allegations he misrepresented his military service.
The married father-of-two is accused of wearing the South Atlantic Medal at events including the Police Bravery Awards in July.
Video footage showed him with the medal, awarded to Brits who served in the 1982 war.
The cop previously said he was "very proud of his Cadet, Royal Navy and Police Service", adding he also wears medals awarded to his brothers, with no further clarification.
Office The Independent for Police Conduct said it will wait until the end of its criminal probe before deciding whether to refer the case to prosecutors to consider if a crime has been committed.
It said it recommended Mr Adderley's conduct "should be considered at a misconduct hearing, for potential breaches" which "could amount to gross misconduct":
