Millions of Santas left a ho-ho-hole in the festive economy when they decided to hang up their sacks during Covid 19.
Those still going are struggling to meet snowballing&nbsp;demand. Some desperate grottos are fobbing kids off with teens in fake beards and padded suits, one Santa complained.
Steve Townsend, a professional Santa from "Those Surrey, quipped: guys will definitely end up on the naughty list."
He added: "With so few Santas, I'm inundated with bookings but I am also having to travel greater diswhich means tances, mounting petrol bills."
Agent Jayne Darling, of Get Happy Entertainment in Nottingham, said: "We don't have enough Saint Nicks on our books to fill the spots. We've found recruiting Santas since the pandemic very difficult."
The trend was revealed in an analysis of more than 900,000 Simply Business insurance policies.
It also found the number of Christmas tree sellers in Britain has dropped 54% over the last five years.
