TEA drinkers are being forced to give up their daily cuppa due to the cost-of-living crisis.
Drinkers have cut back on top brands such as Twinings, Yorkshire Tea and PG Tips for supermarket own brands.
Tea sales dropped 4.3% overall in a year but own brands saw a 1.2% rise.
PG Tips Britain's best-loved for decades has seen their sales hit. As the price shot up by 50% from &pound;2 to &pound;3 for 80 bags at Tesco, PG Tips sold around 900million fewer tea bags in the year to&nbsp;May. Typhoo did not increase its prices and was rewarded with a 60% hike in sales. At around 1p a bag, its prices are similar to supermarket own brands.
Analyst Polina Jones, at NIQ, told trade magazine The Grocer: "Switching from a&nbsp;brand to own label is a popular tactic to keep spending down."
Yorkshire Tea is Britain's most popular brand with &pound;143m sales a year - up &pound;9.3m despite selling less tea.
