ROCKER Bruce Dickinson seeks creative inspiration by walking around in graveyards.
The Iron Maiden singer said looking at headstones and examining the dead makes him feel happy.
Dickinson, 65, whose band have enjoyed dark song lyrics including references to the occult, said he can be struck by music ideas at some "inconvenient" times.
But a trek around a graveyard gives him some quiet time to knock up a new heavy-metal anthem.
"Sometimes I go off and just take a wander around the graveyard," he said. "I find that cheers me up."
He said of musical inspiration: "It happens when I'm driving around, which is inconvenient as you want to pull over and write something immediately, and often you can't. Or sitting on trains, strangely.
"But then somebody starts making a noise and distracts you. I like to be lonely." The metal icon was a guest on YouTube channel EMP where he discussed creativity.
He said: "You have to be aware of when creativity may strike. And be prepared to abandon all those ordinary things everyone else thinks are important for that special moment." The pilot was plugging The Mandrake Project - his first solo album since 2005, which is out on March 1.
