A HERMIT branded "The world's dirtiest man" has died - shortly after his first wash in more than half a century.
Amou Haji, who had avoided cleaning himself over fear it would make him ill, passed away aged 94.
The eccentric became sick after villagers took him to a bathroom to wash for the first time. A local official in the village of Dejgah, Iran, said:&nbsp;"Not long after, he fell ill and finally, on Sunday, he gave up his life."
Amou feared bathing so much he once threw himself out of a car to avoid being washed in a river.
His strange behaviour also included smoking dung, eating rotten porcupine, and drinking water from a rusty oil can. He previously told how he adopted his eccentric&nbsp;lifestyle of refusing to wash after "emotional setbacks in his youth".
Despite his bizarre lifestyle a team of doctors from Tehran examined him earlier this year and found him to be in good health.
They believed he was able to remain healthy because living in extremely harsh conditions made him develop a strong immune system.
