DOGS are turning into hellhounds because "woke" owners are treating them like humans.
A new breed of "positive-only" trainers is urging pooch lovers to hone their pets' antics by praising their good behaviour and ignoring the bad.
But animal behaviourists reckon the modern soft approach is the reason more bad dogs are on the march. Colin Tennant, director of the Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour and Training, said: "If you treat a dog like a human it will treat you like a dog."
The former police dog handler blames positive-only trainers for the rise in poorly controlled pooches.
He said: "Where I live I get dogs snarling and snapping and lunging at me more frequently these days.
"It's a result of woke dog trainers. They won't say 'no' to a dog.
"They won't check a dog back if it's leaping at somebody."
Tennant would like to see the "no" command backed up with a squirt from a water pistol or a blast from a training device which emits unpleasant noises.
He added: "Do not praise a dog for jumping up and then expect it to stop further jumping up."
But one online critic said: "We live in a society that expects dogs to behave like robots and to never make any noise."&nbsp;
