JUDGES are to be given the power to force criminals to attend their sentencing hearings.
The Government has pledged to change the law after a string of serious offenders refused to face their victims.
They include serial killer nurse Lucy Letby who ducked her sentencing last week.
PM Rishi Sunak said: "It is unacceptable that some of the country's most horrendous criminals have refused to face their victims in court. They cannot and should not be allowed to take the coward's way out." The promised reforms will give custody officers the power to use "reasonable force" to put criminals back in the dock or make them attend by video link.
Convicts could also face an extra two years in jail if they ignore a judge's order.
Labour accused the Government of "dragging its feet" as no timeline has yet been set.
THE inquiry into Lucy Letby's crimes will become statutory, said Health Secretary Steve Barclay, meaning witnesses must now give evidence.&nbsp;
