<p>The water firm yesterday announced Ms Bentley would leave with immediate effect but continue to support the firm until her replacement was found.</p>
<p>And she said: &ldquo;It&rsquo;s been an honour to take on such a significant challenge, and&nbsp;a privilege to serve Thames Water&rsquo;s dedicated and inspirational colleagues.&rdquo;</p>

<p>In May it was reported that Ms Bentley, appointed in 2020, was one of three water company chiefs to forego bonuses in response&nbsp;to public anger over the dumping of sewage in rivers. But she still scooped a &pound;1.6million pay packet.</p>
