ACTOR Martin Clunes says his enormous ears saved his career - by winning him work.
The Doc Martin star turned down an offer to have them surgically pinned back when he was starting out.
And he now reckons his large lugholes are "rather splendid" and helped to land him roles he might otherwise have missed out on.
Martin, 61, said: "Age gives a greater perspective. The younger me didn't much enjoy having my appearance insulted or being 'ear shamed' for example. Now I think my ears are rather splendid and I realise they earned me roles I might not have otherwise had."

The comic actor said he turned down an offer from his uncle, Sherlock Holmes actor Jeremy Brett, to pay to have them pinned back.
Clunes, who starred in hit 90s BBC sitcom Men Behaving Badly, said he doesn't have "leading-man looks" but his ears "earned" him lucrative work he may have missed out on. Since 1994 he has also been a regular on Have I Got News for You.
