A COUPLE who got engaged hours after meeting have proved doubters wrong by celebrating 57 years of marriage. Jackie and Richard Adams met at a party 58 years ago. Richard asked Jackie to dance and the pair say it was love at first sight. Richard, 78 – who is a retired business owner – asked Jackie to marry him three hours later after walking her home. Jackie, 73, accepted and despite their families telling them they would “never last” the pair have celebrated 57 years wed. The couple, of Bishop’s Stortford, Herts, have four children and are still “inseparable”. Jackie said: “It was just a feeling when I first saw him. “Our families told us it would never last, but look at us.” Richard added: “She was, and still is, so beautiful and I felt my heart beat out my chest. “I knew she was the one.
