A FOOTBALL league for girls could get the red card from the FA - for refusing to let a boy play.
Parents moaned that their son was not allowed to play in the West Riding Girls Football League.
It triggered a bust-up between officials at the Yorkshire league and the Football Association.
FA bigwigs have threatened the league with possible suspension if it does not let boys join in.
At an emergency meeting held by organisers of the league where 6,000 under-18 girls play in 300 teams - managers feared that letting in boys would "open the floodgates".
The FA's gender policy - set up to boost the women's game - states under-16 teams must let both boys and girls play while conceding "physical strength, stamina or physique" give lads an advantage.
Parents of the boy, who did not want to play with other lads, appealed to the West Riding County FA - overseen by the national FA.
An FA spokesman said: "We want to ensure everybody has the opportunity to play junior football."
Fiona McAnena, of Sex Matters rights group, said: "A boy on the pitch changes everything. The law is clear that female-only sport is allowed.
"It's sex discrimination for the FA to tell girls they must accept a male player."
