A MAN has been crushed to death under thousands of falling cheese wheels in a horrifying accident.
Giacomo Chiapparini, 74, was killed when he was buried under the mound of Grana Padano.
Each of the Parmesan-style cheeses weighed around 6st.
Some of them are believed to have fallen from a height of 33ft.
The tragedy happened when a shelf broke in Mr Chiapparini's warehouse causing a "domino effect"&nbsp;according to firefighter Antonio Dusi.
One local resident who heard the collapse said it sounded "like thunder".
Mr Dusi added it took 12 hours to find Mr Chiapparini's body.
A neighbour described the dairy farmer as being "very supportive... and generous" and added that he had lost a child decades ago.
The accident is also thought to have caused &pound;6 million of damage.
