A SHELLSHOCKED lioness has taken her first steps on grass after being rescued from war-torn Ukraine.Yuna, three, had been confined to a tiny concrete-floored space in a private home before war broke out.She was found in January by military volunteers Kyiv after mis siles left her traumatised.Now a dramatic rescue by The Big Cat Sanctuary has in seen Yuna evacuated through six countries.Cam Whitnall, at The Big Cat Sanctuary, said: "All the hard work has paid off."Rescuing Yuna, giving her a second chance at life and now seeing her feel fresh air and grass for the first time it's incredibly special and beautiful." Yuna has now spent a week acclimatising to her new den at the sanctuary, based near Ashford, Kent.Its curator Briony Smith added: "We still have a long road ahead, but she is showing an amazing amount of courage and we couldn't be happier." Plans are already in motion to rescue three more lionesses Amani, Lira, and Vanda from Wild Animal Rescue in Kyiv. And male lion Rori has been taken to a temporary site in Belgium while his new enclosure is built at the sanctuary.
