OUTRAGED pub customers are being asked to fork out nearly &pound;5 for a pint of Coke in some boozers.
The Alexandra allegedly charged &pound;9.20 for two pints of the soft drink, just 20p shy of the average lager.
A receipt from the pub, just off Clapham Common in south London, revealed two pints of Diet Coke came to &pound;9.20 or &pound;4.60 a glass.
The average cost for a pint of lager in the UK is &pound;4.80.
Coke is available far more cheaply in shops, with a two-litre bottle costing &pound;1.85 at Tesco and two litres in Sainsbury's sold for &pound;3.50.
But it is not just supermarkets selling the drink at a more reasonable price, as a JD Wetherspoon in London Victoria sells it by the glass for &pound;1.75.
Drinkers have hit out at the soaring price of beer in venues across the capital, which can cost close to &pound;9 a pint.
It comes after experts warned a &pound;5 coffee will be the standard price soon.
A large flat white already costs upwards of a fiver in some caf&eacute;s, but rising energy and labour costs will see the price tag become the norm.
Analyst Jeffrey Young reckons a typical takeaway coffee will hit &pound;5 "in three to five years" The Alexandra was contacted for comment.
