CALLUM SMITH will consider his future in the ring after admitting it was "hard to accept" he's not the best following his crushing defeat by Artur Beterbiev.

The Liverpool light-heavyweight was stopped in the seventh round in Quebec City.

Smith, 33, has only suffered two career defeats with the other coming at super-middleweight against Canelo Alvarez.

But, after his bid to become a two-weight world champion came up short against the IBF, WBO and WBC king, he is now considering retirement.

"It's time to assess the future to see if I've got any goals to motivate me to go back to the gym," said Smith.
