And the team from University College London estimate there are 1.2million autistic people in England, far more than the Government figure of 700,000.

Dr Elizabeth O'Nions said: "Historically, autism has been considered as a condition of childhood. But recently, awareness has been growing that it is present across the lifespan - in adults as well as young people.
"Nevertheless, under-recognised autism is still in adults.
"This matters because autistic people often experience discrimination and exploitation in society." The team's estimates suggest that up to 500,000 people aged 20-49 may be autistic but the condition is undiagnosed.
