Shop owners have realised they don't need to stay open late because the rise in home workers means customers can slip out during the day.
Hairdresser Lee Nash-Jones, 38, of&nbsp;Nashwhite salon in Stratford-uponAvon, West Mids, said: "Since Covid, and even before, people are working remotely and customers are bringing computers to the salon midweek, rather than booking at weekends."
Banks and supermarkets have reduced their opening hours the most.
Lucy Stainton, from the Local Data Company, said: "As the cost-of-living crisis hit, the reality for many businesses is that it's more cost-effective to trade for fewer hours, especially highly energy-intensive businesses such as pubs or hairdressers."&nbsp;
