A MEDIC rushed to help a teacher who was stabbed outside a school just two weeks into his job.
Gulzarin Iqbal, 27, a physician associate at a health centre, ran over to the victim, in his 40s, after hearing screams.
A 14-year-old boy was later arrested.
Gulzarin said: "I heard someone scream and so I ran outside to see what was happening.
"I ran across the road and there was a man lying face down on the floor. There was a lot of blood.
"He said he had been stabbed with a long knife, but I didn't see it. I immediately applied pressure to the wound which was on his back." The attack happened on Tuesday evening just yards from Forest Gate Community School in Newham, east London. The teacher was still in hospital last night.
A Met spokesman said: "Officers attended and found the victim inside a shop nearby. His injury was not life-threatening.
"A 14-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident. He was taken into custody where he remains."
The school with around 1,100 pupils is rated "outstanding" by Ofsted.
