AN astronaut who got stuck in space for a year may hold clues as to how humans could live on other planets.
Frank Rubio was supposed to be on a six-month mission. But the Nasa astronaut's stay was doubled after his spacecraft sprang a leak.
He has returned to Earth safely after 371 days in orbit and travelling 157million miles. Frank's mission began in September 2022 but it took a twist when a speck of debris hurtling at 17,500mph pierced a coolant line in a docked Russian Soyuz capsule due to bring him home from the International Space Station.
The incident last December crippled the spacecraft and dad-of-four Rubio and two Russian crewmates were forced to stay put. He added: "Stranded is the wrong word. I never felt stranded.&nbsp;I never felt alone.
"But I did fully appreciate the fact that, you know, I couldn't come home whenever I wanted."
After 5,936 orbits he is Nasa's longest-serving spaceman. Only two people both Russians have spent longer in space than him on a single flight.
