  • BOFFINS at the Western Sydney University have discovered a link between nose picking and Alzheimer's as digging can introduce germs into the nasal cavity, which trigger the release of progressive Alzheimer's-causing beta-amyloid to protect itself.

1 The medical term for having the to pick compulsion your nose is called and is rhinotillexis classed as a form of obsessive compulsive disorder.

2 A survey found 85% of people admitting to digging into their snout. Boffins in the Netherlands also claimed that healthcare workers who indulged in nostril scooping were more likely to catch Covid than those who kept their fingers clean.

3 A study in 2006 learned that 53% of nose pickers were more likely to carry the germ staphylococcus aureus, which can cause skin condition impetigo, boils and abscesses.
