POLICE have named the victim of a stabbing on the dancefloor of a packed nightclub.
Cody Fisher, right, was attacked in the Crane venue in Digbeth, Birmingham, on Boxing Day.
The 23-year-old, who played football for Bromsgrove Sporting, had been on a night out with friends when&nbsp;he was approached by a group of people and stabbed, police said.
A statement shared by the police and attributed to the victim's family said: "They have broken our hearts. I have&nbsp;lost my best friend. My family and I are asking for privacy and respectfulness at this heart-breaking time!" The Crane cancelled its New Year's Eve event and said it was working with police as they continue to investigate.
Det Insp Michelle Thurgood, leading the inquiry, said: "We know there were hundreds of people in the nightclub. We need to hear from anyone who was there."&nbsp;
