Alex Batty vanished aged 11 with mum Melanie and grandad David in 2017 after a holiday in Spain.
They had since been living among a "spiritual community" in the foothills of the French Pyrenees, say police.
Alex, now 17, is expected to return to the UK within 48 hours after fleeing his mum.
