Hungry squirrels ‘wrecking planet’

GREY squirrels are wrecking the UK’s chances of tackling climate change.

The rodents are the biggest threat to our broadleaf woodlands, like oak trees, as they strip off the bark to eat and use to build nests.

As a result, landowners are not planting the amount of trees needed, the House of Lords was told.

The Earl of Kinnoull said: “The biggest threat is the grey squirrel.
