"If we did really have machines that were better at all cognitive labour than the human brain is then that would include in particular the task of making further inventions." The Swede even believes artificial intelligence could help set up space colonies in the future.
He said the only jobs that would be safe were "ones primarily where consumers have a direct preference that the job be done by humans".
He added: "There are also certain things like a cleric - maybe people just want a wedding ceremony officiated by a human being."
"But setting aside these exceptions, I think all functionally defined tasks would be done cheaper and more efficiently and to a higher standard by machine."
