The actor, who died aged 77 last month, was the last remaining main cast member from the comedy about the Home Guard in WW2. Among the famous faces at St Mary's Church in Woolpit, Suffolk, were actors Tim Healy and Graham Cole, singer Alfie Boe and Yes musician Rick Wakeman.
On top of the Birmingham star's coffin was an Army beret and the famous claret and blue scarf, the colours of Aston Villa.
On departure to the churchyard for committal, the Dad's Army theme was played on the organ.
Ian was best known for playing hapless Private Pike and was also Derek Harkinson in EastEnders from 2001 to 2005.
