PLANTS can hear us, says a top boffin. Author Zo Schlanger claims plants and flowers are capable of listening to their surroundings.

They "hear" sounds by feeling vibrations, such as a caterpillar eating a leaf or running water.

The field even has its own name phytoacoustics.
