He claimed everyone would be welcome in the Catholic Church.
He said: "All persons are the children of God, all persons. God does not reject anybody, God is a father.
"And I have no right to expel anyone from the Church." Francis, who was treated in hospital for bronchitis last week, missed the Good Friday procession in Rome due to "extremely cold weather", the Vatican said.
