CONSUMER champion Martin Lewis has urged the Government to scrap April's planned rise in energy bills.
The average bill is expected to go from &pound;2,500 to &pound;3,000 after the 20% hike in the energy price guarantee.
But the MoneySaving Expert founder claims it should no longer happen
because wholesale prices have "come down very substantially"! Mr Lewis, in a letter to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, said: "There is no need to do this. To put this national act of harm of increasing the price guarantee for just three months, to throw another 1.7million people into fuel poverty, taking it to 8.4m, it seems unnecessary"
Mr Lewis said pushing back the rise would be "practical and fair".
He added the decision to increase prices was made when it looked as though wholesale rates were going to be far higher than they are now.
