A BAN on energy firms forcibly installing prepayment meters in customers' homes will only apply to people aged over 85.
This year, it emerged vulnerable customers were forced by debt collectors for British Gas to go on to pay-as-you-go meters.
But critics say the new guidelines, introduced by regulator Ofgem, are nowhere near enough.
Labour MP Diane Abbott said: "So it's OK to force prepay meters on a 75-year-old living alone or someone seriously disabled? It should be banned altogether."
Suppliers will also have to avoid forced installations where a "continuous supply" of energy is needed for health reasons.
The new rules mean firms must make at least 10 attempts to contact a customer and carry out a welfare visit before installation.&nbsp;
