ENGLAND were beaten by the widest of margins to get their World Cup preparations off to a jarring start.
Four fifties in the hosts' 291-6 could not hold a candle to the twin unbeaten tons by Black Caps duo Devon Conway (inset, bottom) and Daryl Mitchell (inset, top).
Conway struck the winning six off Liam Livingstone, who had earlier scored an eye-catching 52, to complete the eight-wicket thrashing with 26 balls left.
They take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series to the Ageas Bowl tomorrow.
