Tech expert Paul Armstrong, of the TBD Group, said: "There's no doubt that AI bots could be trained to run sex lines.
"You would need a digital clone of a human voice which could then strike up a conversation. The people running these lines could save a fortune."
Chatline worker Belle, 40, from Leeds, said bots would fail to rise to the occasion.
She said: "A robot might be able to learn the language but I'm not sure it could handle the strange requests I get thrown.
